Væv: Marie Bentzon

245,00 € – 350,00 €

“Væv” means tissue and are the patterns, structures, lines that connect who we are and what we will become. With this project, the artist went back to her childhood home in a period where she felt stressed and in a lack of solidity. It is a collection from her childhood home, where she investigates her connections to the landscape and the place around the farm which has been in the family for generations.

Description

What does fearlessness mean? To Marie Bentzon, being fearless is connected to being childish. Her friend once asked her what the difference between being a grown-up and a child was. Marie felt she was being childish asking this question. It was liberating. She does not necessarily think being a child and an adult are separate. Chronologically yes, you go from child to adult, but it merges, we merge, we will always be children, your childhood will be who you become as an adult, just as the adults are the children they once were. “I think a lot about this past; how childhood shapes our lives going forward, what you carry with you, what berries you reach out for, and why. And especially how memories affect life”, Marie expresses. Those who return in between from childhood and those who disappear. Were we born the way we are today? Isn’t it really that complicated? Maybe we should allow ourselves more to be who we were then. More childish. Maybe we should allow ourselves to be more fearless? She states that “the photographs are playful and colorful and connect me to the child in me”, before adding: “the conversation with the young me was important in the project, therefore I have also worked with archive photos I took when I was younger. I have made a book with the pictures and in the back of the book I’ve collected photographs of feathers, leaves, stones and such as documentation of the investigation”.
