Description

Red Willow is a exclusive limited edition print which belongs to the Low Season series by Danish/German documentary photographer Anne Lass. The works were shot on Danish island of Bornholm in the winters 2020-21. Low Season is photographed analogue with a medium format camera.   The project has a documentary starting point and describes life on Bornholm in winter time. The narrative is kept very open and invites the viewer to use the works as a projection surface for own memories and imagination. Walking alone in the dark and windy nights has been a personal challenge for Lass, who grew up with artificial lights and people in the streets at night. The darkness can be a peaceful and quiet  – but can also be the opposite. With this project Anne Lass wanted to overcome her fear and explore what happens outside when no one else is around and the shutter of her camera is the only sound one can hear. The project is also a visual study of artificial light situations. How light and shadows shape persons and elements and what mood the light conveys.
