Description

The environment humans have lived in for thousands of years has long been seen as a inanimate area. Nature has been a large resource which humans have used thanks to the ever growing lust for financial growth and expansion. The project is inspired by the term Anthropocene which can be described as a new geological epoch. This geological epoch describes how humans have affected their surroundings and the diverse ecosystems around them. In this project Olsen aims to portray the lifelessness, control, pain and cruelty which humans have treated their own environment with. The art pieces that are on show are small installations that live on in form of photographs. The plants are placed in an environment where they can both be controlled but also stand out. The process before the picture is created is based on building the plant. During this process the plant is constantly changing through the multiple parts that it’s built of. This symbolizes lust for expansion and control over everything in our surroundings.
