Fearless: Angelika Kollin

“Fearless” is a portrait from the series “My name is Lucky.” It’s a collection of photographs of the Malawian immigrant Luckson Nkhomani, who works as a gardener in the wealthy suburbs of Cape Town. The series portrays the richness and multi-layered vibrancy of the personalities among the usually “invisible” demographics. This particular portrait stems from finding out that Lucky’s grandfather is a Sangoma, an honorable traditional medicine man. In westerners, this ancient wisdom tradition on the African continent tends to raise unquestioned fear and discomfort.
